Find a large container, like a cat litter tray or a photographic tray, big
enough for the tortoise to get right inside. It should be sunk into the
earth, level with the soil, for ease of access. Put about one and a half
inches of water in it. (too much and a tortoise can drown.) Tortoises not
only drink with their mouths, but also with their bladder. They use the
water to flush out their bladder and bowels and to take in clean water.
This is particularly important before and after hibernation.
