WILL MY HAMSTER LIKE HAMSTER TOYS?

Avoid hamster toys which are fun for humans but bad for hamsters. Don¹t over-exercise your hamster with a hamster ball. Use one for only short periods ­ less than 10 minutes. Remember it is a tiny creature which isn¹t designed to roll over and over in a plastic machine. Get a solid wheel, not a wheel with bars. Occasionally animals break their legs in wheels made with bars. Hamsters like really cheap toys -- nuts in their shells, coconut shells after the birds have eaten the inside, fruit tree branches, old loo rolls, wooden clothes pegs, small cardboard boxes and builder¹s pipes.
Be careful with hamster tunnels. They are all right for play but not safe enough as a home cage. Fat hamsters can get stuck in them and in hot weather they can heat up like an oven.
