Feeding too much food is a greater danger than feeding too little. Too much food rots in the bottom of the tank and makes the water quality deteriorate. Ideally, feed your goldfish two to three times each day, but give only as much food as they can completely consume within about 5-10 minutes. Remove any excess food after this time using a fine meshed net or length of siphon tubing. Fish will not come to any harm if they are left without food for a few days. If you are going away, and cannot feed them, then you can buy holiday blocks to put in the tank. Make arrangements for somebody to change the water once a week in your absence.
