Both frogs and toads vary in colour. Frogs can be anything from yellow-orange, through green, to dark brown (see right hand photo). Some have black spots on their backs; others have none visible. If it is a big frog, then it is probably female since females are bigger than males. Toads are coloured from sandy through to black, being darker in the winter. (see photo below) They have a warty rather than a smooth skin. They just sit and blink at you and crawl away. Frogs jump and move away faster.
