WHEN DOES MY BIRD NEED TO SEE A VET?

Find an avian vet if possible. There is a UK list by county on www.theparrotsocietyuk.org Some vets know little about birds. Your bird needs veterinary attention if you notice any of the following.
Wheezing or abnormal breathing
A change in the appearance of droppings.
Feathers look odd. The bird if fluffed up or looks hunched. The feathers look untidy. The head feathers are spiky or its head, tail or wings are drooping. Soiled bottom.
The bird perches oddly with both feet on the perch when normally one foot is tucked up. It perches in a different area or sits at the bottom of the cage. It falls off the perch.
Its head is tucked under the wing or turned towards the wing with eyes only partly closed. Dull or swollen eyes.
Lethargy. The bird stops chattering or interacting.
Bleeding, crusting or discharge from the beak, eyes or nostrils
Poor appetite or drinking a lot more water than usual. Vomiting. Weight loss.
Excessive feather picking or plucking
Lumps, swellings or growths anywhere.
