Getting birds back into a cage can be difficult. It usually helps if you
set up a routine, so that they know the hours when they will be allowed
out. "You can also remove the seed one hour before they go out, and,
when you want them back, very obviously replace the seed, " says Wendy
Kyrle-Pope who runs a budgie rescue in South West London. "The other
trick in autumn is to start turning the lights out so that you create a
kind of evening." Or follow the instructions higher up and teach them
to step up on to your finger.
